HISTORY

While the Civic Center officially opened in early 1977, ground breaking on the site began in 1975. Construction continued at a fast pace for nearly two years before the doors finally swung open to the public.


We've assembled a short Flash presentation to show you the transformation of the area between Spring Street and Free Street in Portland from a big open hole in the ground into Maine's premiere venue for music, sports and entertainment.
