Cumberland County Civic Center

Marks 30 Years

Saturday, March 3 marked the 30th Anniversary of the first event at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The rock band ZZ Top opened the building with local band the Blend as the opening act.

Saturday night’s Portland Pirates game marked the 4,742ND event in the 30 year history of the Civic Center. Among the 4,742 events were 1,340 entertainment events and 1,360 professional hockey games.

It is also unique that Saturday’s combined attendance from the basketball championships and hockey put the Civic Center over the 15,000,000 mark for the 30th Anniversary date. Total attendance for during the existence of the Civic Center is 15,006,737.

The Civic Center was built at a cost of eight million dollars of which 3.5 million came from Cumberland County taxpayers and 4.5 million came from private donations.
